Description

The tree map shows the Annual Average Daily Traffic (AADT) by major highway. The size of the block represents the annual average traffic over that highway. If you hover over a particular highway block, additional information about that highway displays. To view more highways on the map, adjust the "AADT Vehicle Average is greater than.." threshold under the Filter tab. Adjusting the AADT Vehicle Average threshold may cause an "Other" block to appear on the tree map. The "Other" block includes all highways that have annual average daily traffic under 100. The average daily traffic along a defined segment of roadway is calculated from short term counts taken along the same section which are then factored to produce the estimate of AADT. Because of this process, the most recent AADT for any given roadway will always be for the previous year. Data is available for all New York State Routes and roads that are part of the Federal Aid System.

Limitations
AADT is a statistical estimate; as such, actual daily volumes encountered on a particular day may vary from the AADT reported. Considerably higher or lower values often result in areas of seasonal activities and when comparing weekend versus weekday traffic.
