This map shows the percentage of children that reside in each New York State county, excluding New York City, who were tested for lead and identified for the first time within the specified time period to have elevated concentrations of lead in their blood. An elevated blood lead concentration of ≥ 10 mcg/dL is defined by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as the level requiring public health intervention. Under current NYS Public Health Law and implementing regulations, health care providers are required to test all children for lead at or around age one year and again at or around age two years. Health care providers are also required to assess all children age six months to 72 months of age at least once annually for lead exposure, with blood lead testing for all children found to be at risk, based on those assessments. The numbers and rate are based on birth year (birth cohort). Under current NYS Public Health Law and implementing regulations, health care providers are required to test all children for lead at or around age one year and again at or around age two years. Health care providers are also required to assess all children age six months to 72 months of age at least once annually for lead exposure, with blood lead testing for all children found to be at risk, based on those assessments. Historic land uses on lots that were vacant, privately owned, and zoned for manufacturing in 2009.  Information came from a review of several years of historical Sanborn maps over the past 100 years. 

When the SPEED 1.0 mapping application was created in 2009, OER had its vendor examine historic land use maps on vacant, privately-owned, industrially-zoned tax lots. Up to seven years of maps for each lot were examined, and information was recorded that indicated industrial uses or potential environmental contamination such as historic fill. Data for an additional 139 lots requested by community-based organizations was added in 2014. Each record represents the information from a map from a particular year on a particular tax lot at that time. Limitations of funding determined the number of lots included and entailed that not all years were examined for each lot.

Properties remediated under OER's oversight, both in the E-Designation program and the NYC Voluntary Cleanup Program. Includes sites completed and in progress.
