Pursuant to New York City’s Housing Maintenance Code, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) issues violations against conditions, in rental dwelling units and buildings, that have been verified to violate the New York City Housing Maintenance Code (HMC) or the New York State Multiple Dwelling Law (MDL).
Each row in this dataset contains discrete information about one violation of the New York City Housing Maintenance Code or New York State Multiple Dwelling Law. Each violation is identified using a unique Violation ID. These Laws are in place to provide requirements for the maintenance of residential dwelling units within New York City.
Violations are issued by Housing Inspectors after a physical inspection is conducted (except for class I violations which are generally administratively issued). Violations are issued in four classes: Class A (non-hazardous), Class B (hazardous), Class C (immediately hazardous) and Class I (information orders). The base data for this file is all violations open as of October 1, 2012. Violation data is updated daily. The daily update includes both new violations and updates to the status of previously issued violations. An open violation is a violation which is still active on the Department records. See the status table for determining how to filter for open violations versus closed violations, and within open violations for a more detailed current status.
The property owner may or may not have corrected the physical condition if the status is open. The violation status is closed when the violation is observed/verified as corrected by HPD or as certified by the landlord. Using other HPD datasets, such as the Building File or the Registration File, a user can link together violations issued for given buildings or for given owners.

The Open Parking and Camera Violations dataset was initially loaded with all violations contained in the mainframe database as of May 2016. Subsequent new violation issuance and updates to existing violations are applied to this data set on the following schedule:

New or open violations will be updated weekly (Sunday).
Violations satisfied by having been paid, dismissed via hearing, statutorily expired, or had other changes to its status, will be updated daily (Tuesday through Sunday).
Violations that have been written-off because they have statutorily expired and are no longer valid are indicated with blank financials.
Summons images will not be available during scheduled downtime on Sundays from 5:00 am to 10:00 am.

This data includes the name and location of food service establishments and the violations that were found at the time of their last inspection. Although violation details are collected on inspection reports (i.e., the actual food item, quantity and temperature of food found out of temperature control) as well as corrective actions for critical violations, this data set is limited to the violation number and the corresponding general violation description. This dataset is for reporting purposes only. Any concerns about individual establishments should be referred to the corresponding Local Health Department. The initial view of the map is broken up into large geographic areas and displays the number of violations in each area. The map can be filtered by facility, city, and county by changing these options under the Filter tab. Last inspection data is the most recently submitted and available data. Requests for more detailed information or actual copies of inspection reports should be directed to the local health department or State District Office which conducted the inspections in question. This map excludes inspections conducted in New York City (https://nycopendata.socrata.com/), Suffolk County
(http://apps.suffolkcountyny.gov/health/Restaurant/intro.html) and Erie County (http://www.healthspace.com/erieny). Inspections are a snapshot in time and are not always reflective of the day-to-day operations and overall condition of an establishment. This map is currently updated monthly. Occasionally, remediation may not appear until the following month due to the timing of the updates. Some counties provide this information on their own websites and information found there may be more frequently updated.

This dataset defines the parking violation codes in New York City and lists the fines. Each fine amount includes a $15 New York State Criminal Justice surcharge.

This data includes the name and location of active food service establishments and the violations that were found at the time of the inspection. Inspections are a snapshot in time and are not always reflective of the day-to-day operations and overall condition of an establishment.

This data includes the name and location of inactive food service establishments and the violations that were found at the time of the inspection. Inactive food service establishments include only establishments that are no longer in business or have not operated for an extended period of time. Inspections are a “snapshot” in time and are not always reflective of the day-to-day operations and overall condition of an establishment. This dataset is refreshed on a monthly basis.

The dataset contains every sustained or not yet adjudicated violation citation from every full or special program inspection conducted up to three years prior to the most recent inspection for restaurants and college cafeterias in an active status on the RECORD DATE (date of the data pull). When an inspection results in more than one violation, values for associated fields are repeated for each additional violation record. Establishments are uniquely identified by their CAMIS (record ID) number. Keep in mind that thousands of restaurants start business and go out of business every year; only restaurants in an active status are included in the dataset.
Records are also included for each restaurant that has applied for a permit but has not yet been inspected and for inspections resulting in no violations. Establishments with inspection date of 1/1/1900 are new establishments that have not yet received an inspection. Restaurants that received no violations are represented by a single row and coded as having no violations using the ACTION field.
Because this dataset is compiled from several large administrative data systems, it contains some illogical values that could be a result of data entry or transfer errors. Data may also be missing.

This map includes the name and location of active Temporary Residences operating in New York State. Active Temporary Residences include only facilities that were categorized as active (i.e., hotel, motel, or cabin colony occupied by or maintained for the occupancy by 11 people or more) on the date the data was downloaded from a Department of Health database. This data also includes the date of the last inspection and violations of Subpart 7-1 of the New York State Code of Rules and Regulations that were identified during that inspection. Additionally, the data includes the Temporary Residence owner-operator, building type, number of sleeping rooms within the facility, and whether a pool, beach, or food service establishment is operated as part of the facility. The location of the Temporary Residence includes its street address, city, state, zip code, municipality, and county.

DOT's Highway Inspection & Quality Assurance (HIQA) enforces the laws and rules that govern the way utilities, plumbers, contractors, other governmental agencies, and property owners perform work on the City's sidewalks, roadways and highways. DOT's inspectors also review work sites for compliance with permit stipulations, and issue violations when they find non-compliance with the laws and rules.

This data set includes violations issued on devices through the New York City Department of Buildings' DOB NOW: Safety Violations module. The data is collected because the Department of Buildings tracks violation issuance and related information. This data include items such as violations number, violations type, violation issuance data, and BIN.

This dataset includes the name and location of active mobile home parks operating in New York State. Active mobile home parks include only parks that were categorized as active (i.e., operating with accommodations for the placement of five or more mobile or manufactured homes) on the date the data was downloaded from a Department of Health database. This data also includes the date of the last inspection and violations of Part 17 of the New York State Code of Rules and Regulations that were identified during that inspection. Additionally, the data includes the park owner-operator, the number of sites within the park, the type of on-site water source and sewage disposal system serving the mobile home park, and whether a pool or beach is operated as part of the mobile home park. The location of the mobile home park includes its street address, city, state, zip code, municipality, and county.
