Waterfront Public Access Areas (WPAAs) are privately owned waterfront zoning lots where publicly accessible open space is provided to and along the shoreline for public enjoyment, as shown on the Waterfront Access Map (WAM).

A Lower Density Growth Management Area is an area designated in the Zoning Resolution where new developments must provide more off-street parking, larger yards and more open space than would otherwise be required in the applicable zoning districts In Staten Island and Bronx Community District 10.

2020 Neighborhood Tabulation Areas (NTAs) are medium-sized statistical geographies for reporting Decennial Census and American Community Survey (ACS). 2020 NTAs are created by aggregating 2020 census tracts and nest within Community District Tabulation Areas (CDTA). NTAs were delineated with the need for both geographic specificity and statistical reliability in mind. Consequently, each NTA contains enough population to mitigate sampling error associated with the ACS yet offers a unit of analysis that is smaller than a Community District.

Though NTA boundaries and their associated names roughly correspond with many neighborhoods commonly recognized by New Yorkers, NTAs are not intended to definitively represent neighborhoods, nor are they intended to be exhaustive of all possible names and understandings of neighborhoods throughout New York City. Additionally, non-residential areas including large parks, airports, cemeteries, and other special areas are represented separately within this dataset and are assigned codes according to their type (See NTAType field). City Owned and Leased Properties (COLP) is published by the Department of City Planning (DCP) as required by chapter 204 of the City Charter. It includes the location and current use of all City-owned and leased properties. COLP is produced from an extract of the Integrated Property Information System (IPIS), a real estate database maintained by the Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS). Except where indicated, the data provided is from IPIS.

The Building Elevation and Subgrade data contains New York City building centroids derived from the Department of Building's (DOB) February 26th, 2022 building footprint dataset. Each record contains a grade and first floor measurement for each building (recorded as feet above sea-level in the NADV88 vertical datum) and indicates if subgrade space exists. DCP contracted with an external data vendor to generate a single point, or centroid, that represented the location of the center of every building recorded in the DOB dataset. The dataset excluded the footprints of small accessory buildings such as sheds. Each row within the dataset represents one building centroid, and records the X and Y coordinates of that centroid in the NAD 1983 coordinate system.

The Department of City Planning aggregates information about 30,000+ facilities and program sites that are owned, operated, funded, licensed, or certified by a City, State, or Federal agency in the City of New York into a central database called the City Planning Facilities Database (FacDB). These facilities generally help to shape quality of life in the city’s neighborhoods, and this dataset is the basis for a series of planning activities. This public data resource allows all New Yorkers to understand the breadth of government resources in their neighborhoods. The data is also complemented with a new interactive web map that enables users to easily filter the data for their needs. Users are strongly encouraged to read the database documentation, particularly with regard to analytical limitations.

This file shows the relationship between New York City’s 2020 census tracts, 2020 Neighborhood Tabulation Areas (NTAs), and Community District Tabulation Areas (CDTAs). 2020 census tracts nest within 2020 NTAs, and 2020 NTAs nest within CDTAs, so each census tract is listed only once. Note that CDTAs sometimes cross borough boundaries, and therefore will not add up to borough totals for the Bronx, Queens, and Manhattan. As they are nested within CDTAs, NTAs will likewise not add up to borough totals. Also note that census tracts in New York City’s water areas are excluded from this file.

Shapefile of zoning section map index, grid to determine which zoning section map relates to specific areas of NYC.
A sectional index grid to determine which Zoning Map refers to specific areas of New York City. Zoning maps show the boundaries of zoning districts throughout the city. The maps are regularly updated after the City Planning Commission and the City Council have approved proposed zoning changes. The set of 126 maps, which are part of the Zoning Resolution, are displayed in 35 sections. Each section is identified by a number from 1 to 35. Each map covers an area of approximately 8,000 feet (north/south) by 12,500 feet (east/west).
